PERRYSVILLE: Betty J. Cowell passed away peacefully Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 91.

She was born July 18, 1928 to John & Winifred (Reichert) Stouffer in Ashland. After Betty graduated from Loudonville High School with the class of 1946, she married Bernard Cowell on January 14, 1950, they were married 54 years until his passing in 2005.

Betty was very active in and a long-time member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Ashland, Eastern Star Ashland Chapter #92, the Grand Court – Order of the Amaranth and a member of both the Hillside First Church of God in Mansfield and Perrysville Baptist Church. Her and Bernard enjoyed traveling around the US and traveled extensively thought out the years with the Masonic Temple. She also loved family get-togethers and spending time with all her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Jim (Becky) Cowell of Perrysville, Patty (John) Adkins of Mansfield, Kathy (John) Besenti of Lucas, Barbara Zody of Loudonville, Gary (Ursula) Cowell of Arizona, Cork (Donna) Cowell of Loudonville,  and Linda (Jim) Emery of Loudonville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister Audrey (Harold) Applegate of Perrysville; brother-in-law  Jack Cowell of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her brother Richard Stouffer; and her sister Janice Endslow.

The Cowell family will receive friends Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Snyder Funeral Home- Lindsey Chapel, Loudonville with a White Shriners Service at 4:45 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Contributions in Betty’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children may be made at the funeral home.

  • We were so sorry today to hear of Betty’s passing. We will miss seeing her in the hall or dining room at Arbors. Whenever we said “hi” she would answer with a smile on her face.
