Betty Ann Wurm, aged 94, of Center Village, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Columbus Colony Care Center. She was born March 9, 1918, in Galena to the late Dr. Elmer C. and Mozelle (Davis) Johnson, DVM.

A graduate of Galena High School, Betty was a homemaker, having raised her five children. She was a charter member of the Harlem Road United Methodist Church, the Harlem Grange and was also a member of the Harlem Garden Club. Betty was active in her community, serving as a former den mother for troop 347 and assisting with the 4H club. Known wide and far for her cooking, several of her recipes are printed in various cookbooks. Her homemade chicken and noodles started the fundraising efforts for the Harlem Grange and the Harlem Township Fire Department. She also enjoyed gardening and canning, which she did into her late 80’s. She had a green thumb and a knack for reviving flowers that were past their prime.

Betty also assisted with her late husband, Dr. Melvin A. Wurm’s, veterinarian practice.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Charles (Carol) Ross of Pataskala; Robert (Julie) Rhodeback of Center Village; Marge Lewis of Cape Coral, Florida; Dianna (Robert) Jaynes of Westerville; Marcella (Mark) Pheister of Reynoldsburg; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in brothers, James Paul Johnson, John “Jack” Johnson; sisters, Jane Walker, Margaret Ferguson and Louise Johnson.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Harlem Road United Methodist Church with Pastor Bud Leskovac officiating. A graveside service will be at a later date in Galena Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Betty’s memory to Mount Carmel Hospice, 6150 E.
