Betty Adelaide Pearrell Jessup was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 13, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
She was born April 24, 1927 in Midlothian, Virginia to the late David N. Pearrell and Cora Ligon Pearrell. Mrs. Jessup came to Mount Vernon in 1953 with her husband, Richard W. Jessup.
Mrs. Jessup touched many lives over the years with her smile and servant’s heart. She was head custodian for forty years; first at Emmanuel Baptist Church and, then, at Faith Baptist church where she is a charter member. She taught pre-k Sunday School at Emmanuel Baptist Church for twenty years and was a deaconess for many years. Mrs. Jessup was loved by many. She was adored by her family and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her children, Judi Zolman of Mount Vernon, Carol Szerlip of Mount Vernon, Dick Jessup of Mount Vernon, Cherie (Kevin) Moore of Mount Vernon, Robin (Robert) Bolds of Dublin and Michael (Dawn) Jessup of Mount Vernon; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Francis (Jack) Weber of Boston, MA; and her brother Thomas (Jean) Pearrell of Richmond, VA.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Jessup was preceded in death by her husband Richard W. Jessup; her sister, Margaret Anne Dudley; her brother Ronald Pearrell; and her son-in-law Jeffrey Zolman.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 6-8PM at the Faith Baptist Church (8764 Martinsburg Rd., Mount Vernon). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at the Faith Baptist Church, beginning at 11AM with Rev. Robert Bolds officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
