Betty A. Brown, age 87, of Delaware passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Centrum of Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware.
She was born on November 5, 1924 in Cincinnati to the late Arthur and Bessie (Bangs) Ulmer. A graduate of Withrow High School 1943, she then worked in the promotional department at WLW and WSAI radio stations in Cincinnati. She met her husband-to-be, John H. Brown, while attending Ohio Wesleyan University. They were married on September 6, 1947 in Madisonville, Ohio. Even though she never graduated from Ohio Wesleyan, she was considered a member of the Class of 1949.
Betty and John were married for 55 wonderful years until his passing in 2002 and for 49 years they made their home on N. Franklin St. in Delaware.
She retired as the secretary to the superintendent of the Delaware City Schools and had been a faithful member of William St. United Methodist Church since 1949. A member of the Progressive Mothers’ Club and Support for Talented Students, she was also a member of the Secretary’s Association, the predecessor to the IAPP.
Betty enjoyed a passion for gardening, especially her rose beds, and golfing. She loved finding, refinishing and restoring antique furniture. But her primary interests were that of her family.
She leaves a legacy of love for her surviving children, daughter Lauren (Joel) Schaefer of Delaware, sons Jim Brown of Columbus, Jay (Julie) Brown of Eureka, MO, Jeff Brown (Katherine Sill) of Minneapolis, MN, treasured grandchildren Justin, Mark (Jennifer), and Jennifer Schaefer (fiancé Myles Vander Weele), Kelsey, McKenna, William and Anneke Brown, faithful brothers and sister: Samuel (Nancy) Ulmer of Cincinnati, David (Joan) Ulmer of Maineville, OH, Bill (Mildred) Ulmer of Jacksboro, TN, and Shirley Ulmer-Rodrigues of Bend, OR.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Barbara Ann.
