Bette L. Shipley

Better L. Shipley passed away Sunday evening, August 25, 2019 in Colonial Manor surrounded by her family. She was 94.

She was born November 21, 1924 to parents Francis “Curly” & Bertha (Lloyd) Warman in Mt. Vernon. After Bette graduated from Homer High School with the class of 1942, she married the love of her life Donald Shipley. The pair went on to work on the family farm in Homer until moving to Florida and later Arizona.

A lifelong musician, Bette owned her own organ store in Mt. Vernon for several years, where she also taught lessons. She later began teaching driving lesson for AAA and retired in 1985.

Not only was Bette a musician but also an artist, and she took great pleasure in painting. Art was a very important part of Bette’s life and she will be remembered by all of her watercolor paintings for years to come.

She is survived by her son Robert Shipley of Howard, and her grandson Nathan Shipley of Loudonville.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son Stephen Paul Shipley.

The Shipley family will receive friends Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 5 to 6 p.m. with a service immediately following at 6 p.m. in the Snyder Funeral Home- Lindsey Chapel, 123 N. Market Street, Loudonville, Ohio. Pastor Dan Dickman will speak.

  • Sorry to hear of your mothers passing. I saw her mothers maiden name was Loyd. My grandmother was a cousin to Bertha, Her name was Eva (Loyd) Crouch. Her son was Charles S. Crouch, my father. Bette an my father were second cousins. Benjamin Loyd and Charles Sumner Loyd were brothers. An the children of John an Fannie Loyd all from the Brandon an Homer areas. Many relatives are buried in Homer and the Southlawn cemetrys, In Homer and Utica. My name is Janice (Crouch) Fawcett, My parents Charles an Dorothy lived on Crouch 3rd. on Martinsburg road by a small cem. where there are Warmans and buried. Alfred an Matilda Warman an son John an Margaret (Crouch) Warman plus their 4 children. about 5 miles out of Mount Vernon. Warman had a thrashing business on Martinsburg rd. years ago. CM Warman was a school teacher an taught at Smith schoolhouse on that same road. John an Fannie had at least 8 living children who reached adulthood. It was a fairly big family. I am doing genealogy is why I know what I know. Its not often thatch e name Loyd is in the newspaper, There is a John Lloyd in Danville also related. Ralph Loyds relation. Its nice to know of family that related to the Lloyd family. I wish we could get together sometime to talk about Berths Loyds relation if you have more history or photons of her Lloyd family.
