Betsy L. “Bessie” Patterson
July 24, 1923 ‒ February 05, 2009
Betsy L. “Bessie” Patterson, 85, of Edison died Thursday evening February 5, 2009 at the Morrow County Hospital.
She was born on July 24, 1923 in Vernon Township, Scioto County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Benton and Ressie E. (Smith) Fout.
Betsy was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and lived in that area before moving to Edison in the ‘40s.
On January 18, 1947 she married Donald Hugh Patterson, Sr. They just celebrated 62 years together as husband and wife. This devotion, not only to her husband but also to her children, led her to her role as homemaker.
She loved her family and cherished those times spent together. They would often find themselves gathered in the kitchen as Betsy would make one of her many baked goods, with pies being her specialty.
While she loved baking, she never missed an opportunity to eat out with her children. If asked for a favorite she would have said, “Michaels” in Marion.
A faithful woman, she was a member of the Edison United Methodist Church and when her children were younger she was Village of Edison Treasurer.
Her loving, caring, and gentle nature will have a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She will be missed by her husband Donald Patterson, Sr. formerly of Edison; their children Donald H. (Connie) Patterson of Marysville, Ronald “George” (Joan) Patterson of Ashley, and Candy (Mark) Messmer of Upper Sandusky; 4 grandchildren Rachel (Larry) Stover, Kristina (Bill) Martin, Rebecca Patterson, and Karen Patterson; 3 great grandchildren Kendal Stover, Alex VanDyke, and Aaron Martin; and a brother Estel Fout.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Orville Fout and her sister Gladys Gross.
