Elizabeth C. “Betsy” Fowler, age 80, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday January 22, 2003 at the Inn at HillenVale in Mount Vernon. Betsy was born January 12, 1923 in Raton, New Mexico to Charles and Edith (Cowles) Campbell and had spent most of her lifetime in Mount Vernon. She graduated in 1945 with a degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was a Golden Rose member of Delta Zeta Sorority, which signifies, 50 years of membership. Betsy taught one year at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware and one year at the Ohio State University in Columbus.

She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for 68 years and was one of the first women elders of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon and had also served as a church deaconess. Betsy had served as a Red Cross, Gray Lady Volunteer for the Knox Community Hospitals and was past president of the Knox County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Surviving are her husband Dr. John R. Fowler; three sons Dr. John C. (Marcie) Fowler of Mount Vernon, Charles (Nanette) Fowler of Dublin and Scott (Gina) Fowler of Tabernacle, New Jersey; 4 grandchildren Nicholas Fowler, Nathan Fowler, Kirsten Fowler and Annika Fowler; 2 step grandchildren Valerie (Zach) Burrell and Amanda Tilmant and a step great grandson Jacob Burrell.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be Saturday at 1 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon with Rev. Doug Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery.

The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
