Bernice “Bernie” Cox Flowers

MANSFIELD: Bernice “Bernie” Cox Flowers passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in Lexington Court Care Center.
Bernice Flowers was born October 14, 1915 in Morrow County to Ira and Lola Bash Cox and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1933.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years Richard Flowers; two brothers, Harold Cox and Edwin Cox; and two sisters, Pearl Cox and Gladys Rinehart. She has one living brother Richard Cox of Galion.
She is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-law Jeri and Ross Doty of Los Angeles, California; Peggy and John Disher of Portland, Maine; and Jeanie and Stephen Parker of Sarasota, Florida; seven grandchildren and their spouses Rich Holdren, Will Holdren, Chuck and Brinette Holdren, Skip and Blaney Stander, Ryan and Dorene Stander, Carrie Douglas and Ryan Fong, and David and Jennifer Douglas; six great grandchildren Lucy and Violet Stander, Evelyn Stander, and Aidan, Ainsley, and Blaithin Fong.
Bernie was passionately competitive in most aspects of her life, especially in golf, cards, and finances. She loved gardening and nature. Kingwood Center was a favorite destination most any time of the year.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of her life Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of The First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield, with The Rev. Clifford D. Schutjer and Bernie’s son-in-law The Rev. Stephen Parker officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the service.
