BELLVILLE: Bernard Lee “Bun” Bachelder passed away Thursday morning, November 20, 2014 in Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky following a battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 86.

He was born May 11, 1928 in Mansfield to parents Clayton & Ruby (Frazier) Bachelder. After he was graduated from Bellville High School with the class of 1946, he proudly served his country by joining the US Army and was stationed as a medic in Germany during the Korean War.

On November 19, 1953 he married Lulu Hazel Fockler who preceded him in death in 1989. Bernard worked at Westinghouse for over 42 years where they called him “Curly”, retiring in 1989.

In spare time he enjoyed the thrill of hunting, the relaxation of fishing, and the satisfaction of sprucing up his yard and garden.

He was a member of the American Legion Irvin Hiskey Post #535 and the AMVETS both in Bellville.

He is survived by a daughter & son-in-law Diane & Gary Mishey of Bellville; two grandchildren: Gary Mishey Jr. (Tammie Candiano) of Navarre, FL, and Brian (Sandy) Mishey of Convoy; three great-grandchildren Logan Mishey, Alexis Dull, and Cody Mishey; three sisters: Evelyn (Marty) Zimmerman of Wooster, Wanda (Bob) Martin of Mansfield, and Janet Witchey of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and the compassionate staff of the Ohio Veteran’s Home who gave him tremendous care and treated him like family.

Bernard was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, and a brother Richard Bachelder.

His family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014  in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, 81 Mill Road, where a funeral service honoring his life will immediately follow at 3 p.m. Pastor Mike Stein will officiate and American Legion Irvin Hiskey Post #535 of Bellville will perform military honors at the funeral home.
