Bernard L. “Ben” Arnold, age 81, of Hilltop Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 1, 2006 at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon.

He was born on January 18, 1925 in Howard, to the late Jonathan and Virginia (Gardner) Arnold. Ben was a 1943 graduate of Howard High School. He was employed by Grassbaugh Hatchery, and Brock Grain and Feed Bins. He was a member Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus, Council 910, Danville. Ben was also an Army Veteran of W.W.II. He enjoyed farming, attending sporting events, horse racing and was known for his famous barbeque chicken.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Anne (Jim) Peterson of Marion, grandsons, James, Justin, and Jason Peterson of Marion; brothers, Arthur (Mary G.) Arnold of Mount Vernon, Charles (Catherine) Arnold of Powell and James (Diane) Arnold of Mount Vernon; sisters, Ruth Ann Hartman of Rochester, NY, Lucille Meyer of Mount Vernon, and Mary Koss of Stevensville, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dwight “Curly”, Edward, and Donald Arnold; brothers-in-law, Walter Koss, Chuck Meyer, and Thomas Hartman.

The family will receive family and friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Rosary services at 7:30 p.m .

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Saint Luke Catholic Cemetery in Danville with military graveside services conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School, 206 East Chestnut St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 in Ben’s memory.
