Bernard David “Jack” Ashbaugh, 86, of Ava, Missouri died Thursday, July 15, 2004 in the Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
He was born in Clarkton, Missouri on February 26, 1918, the son of the late Walter B. and Florence G. (Dunn) Ashbaugh.
He graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S.M.S. Degree and began his professional career at the Hydraulic Press Manufacturing Corporation in Mount Gilead where he served as a Vice President. He has resided in Ava for 22 years, moving there from Rochester, NY.
Jack was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church, the Missouri Tree Farmers Association, the Missouri Forest Products Association, Treasurer of the Douglas County Library, Founding Member of the Brixey and Rockbridge Vol. Fire Department. He was the Missouri Conservationist of the Year in the mid 1980’s. He was also a member of the Shriners Lodge, Medina Temple of Chicago, and a 32nd degree Mason of the Mount Gilead Lodge #206. Jack loved fly-fishing and tree farming.
Jack is survived by his wife Martha Ann (Morton) Ashbaugh, whom he married Oct. 11, 1941; two daughters Marianne (Arthur) Linderman of Long Valley, New Jersey, and Linda Louise (Jonathan) Cooney of Sikeston, Missouri; three grandchildren Rebecca Broyles, Rachel Johnson and Catherine Cooney; two great grandchildren Chelsea and Caleb Broyles; a sister Virginia Smelser of Jefferson City, Missouri; and a host of relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mount Gilead on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. The Rev. Jonathan Cooney will conduct funeral services there Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
