Barbara Mae Smith, age 91, of Mount Vernon, Ohio passed away on December 1, 2019 at the Mount Vernon Health and Rehab.  She was born on May 18, 1928 in Knox County, Ohio to the late John and Grace (Oliver) Wise.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Woodsfield, Ohio.  Barbara also attended the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Ohio for the last several years.  She was also a member of the American Legion Post 29, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, post 1058 of Zanesville, Ohio.  Barbara was also a member of the Amvets Auxiliary Post 95 in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

She retired as a cashier for Franklin County Department of Human Services in Columbus, Ohio.  Barbara enjoyed glass and porcelain wares and writing poetry.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Daniel) Gilt of New London, Ohio, Teresa (Roger) Frank of Grove City, Ohio; two sons, Timothy (Linda) Smith of Sunbury, Ohio, and David (Melinda) Smith of Zanesville, Ohio; grandsons, Dustin Smith, Nathan Smith, Kevin Stockdale; granddaughters, Amber Novosielski, Julie Foss; step-grandsons, Andy Frank, Derek Baldwin; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Baldwin; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Virginia (Glenn) Kidwell, Frances (Richard) Heffelfinger; several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her son, Harold Duane Smith; a brother, Floyd (Margaret) Wise.

An hour of calling will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with a celebration of life service starting at 11:00 AM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 on Friday, December 6, 2019 with Rev. Wade Wolf officiating.  Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.
