Barbara J. Carpenter

September 04, 1936 ‒ October 12, 2018

Mount Vernon, Ohio

Barbara J. Carpenter, age 82, of Mount Vernon passed away at her home on Friday, October 12, 2018.

She was born on September 4, 1936 in Mount Vernon to the late Tim and Helen (Bricker) Wilmotte.  She met her husband Neil Carpenter in 1956 at Sohio Filling Station.  They were married on November 19, 1957.  Barb was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother to her husband and her children.  She had many beloved nieces and nephews that still rave about her famous chocolate cream pie.

Barb was a devout Christian who loved her Lord and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she became a member encouraged by her lifelong friend Charlotte Patterson, who we joked was her godmother.  Barb worked at Smithhisler Meats for 25 years and sold many of her famous pies and made many friends that still speak fondly of her today.  She spent countless nights watching softball and later enjoyed watching her grandchildren play for Mount Vernon.  She especially loved watching volleyball and basketball, but not wrestling or football because she was afraid someone would get hurt.  She lived a beautiful, Godly life and will be sorely missed by all who loved her; but we take heart as she is resting in glory.

She is survived by her husband, of nearly 62 years, Neil Carpenter; her children Tim (Jill) Carpenter, Kelly Montgomery; six grandchildren, Jessica Carpenter, Robyn (Dylan DeBoard) Carpenter, Mikala (Chris Butsko) Montgomery, Jordan (Kelsey) Montgomery, Madisyn Montgomery, Makenzi Montgomery; four great grandchildren, Amaya, Mason, Ellie Jo, Laynie Jean; and her sister Terry (Jack) Jacobs.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved twins, Ronald Lynn and Dawn Lee; a precious girl and boy that she is happily reunited with.

Friends may call on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 1:00PM-3:00PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home (619 E. High St. Mount Vernon).

The family would like to thank Hospice of Knox County for their wonderful care and compassion.

  • My condolences on the loss of your dear wife of 62 years. All who have experienced such a loss, will agree that there is no such thing as getting over the grief. However, over time and with the support of others, your grief will soften. It is comforting to know that God can give you the needed support. 1 Peter 5:7 states, “throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.”
