Avery Irwin Jones, age 87 of Radnor, passed away early Thursday morning at Delaware Court Nursing Center. He was born November 4, 1918 in Radnor to Albert and Vivian (Ferguson) Jones. He was a lifelong Radnor resident and a graduate of Radnor High School class of 1936. He was a WWII Army veteran, serving with the 5th Army Truck Battalion stationed in North Africa and Italy. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion and a 59 year member of the Radnor United Church of Christ, where he served as Treasurer and held many other church offices. He enjoyed farming, livestock, and antique tractor shows. His grandfather was the Radnor physician, and his great-grandfather discovered the magnetic waters of Magnetic Springs. He is survived by Vera, his wife of 59 years; sons Norman (Velda) of Radnor, Roger (Nancy) of San Antonio, TX and Brent (Denise) of Radnor; 4 grandchildren Michelle (Cliff) Sayre, Brian (Jonya) Jones, Mikel (Stephanie) Jones, and Holly Jones; 7 great-grandchildren Aaron, Zachary, Nathan, Elijah, C.J., Nathan, and Levi; and his canine companion Heidi. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Miriam at infancy. Friends will be received at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Delaware Chapel, 1510 W. William St., on Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Radnor United Church of Christ with Pastor Matt Wilson of the Radnor UCC Church officiating. Interment will follow at Radnor Cemetery.
