Arthur Alva Saunders

Arthur Alva Saunders, age 88, of Sunbury, died peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Heartland of Westerville.  Retired in 1994 after 25 years of service at Nestle.  Attended Harlem Road United Methodist Church.  Born September 19, 1931 in Sunbury to the late Alva B. and M. Pearl (Miles) Saunders.  Art loved horses, attending local fairs and auctions where he would pick up his “treasures” – tools, clocks, watches and knives.  He could often be found in the garage tinkering with something.  He was proud of his children and loved time with his family.  In addition to his parents, Art was also preceded in death by sisters, Lucille Harding, Helen Hunter and Bernice Metzger; brother, Leland Saunders.  He is survived by children, Pam (Allen) Fling of Johnstown, Patti DeVore of Columbus, Steve (Debbie) Saunders of Croton and Karen Whitt of Washington Court House; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  Friends may call 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury, where Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday.  Pastor Bud Leskovac officiating.  Interment Hunt Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Art’s memory.  The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Saunder’s family.  Please leave a memory or condolence for the family on this website.

  • Arthur certainly lived a life filled with many events. The fairs, auctions and time spend with friends and family were important to him. He had a unique view of life and I think he lived his life with gusto He will be missed. My prayers for the family as they work through the grief process and learn to deal with this loss.

  • I remember Art from many years ago. He was a gentle man with kind words as was his father and his siblings. I was priveleged to know all of them. Thank you for sharing him with this community. We are all better for having met him

  • I well remember Art. He sat in the desk beside me in hi school. He had an inquisitive mind an often asked me questions that i tried to answer. He was always pleasant and easy to talk to. A good and friendly classmate. I’m sure he’ll be missed by family and friends.
