Arnold Jakob “Arnie” Schmidt

BUTLER ~ Arnold J. “Arnie” Schmidt of Butler, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland. He was 54.
Born May 24, 1956 in Mansfield to Jakob and Theresa (Koch) Schmidt. Arnie was a graduate of St. Peters High School in 1974 and earned his Bachelors degree in Languages from Notre Dame in 1980.
In 1981 Arnie entered the planning and engineering intern program at the then United Telephone Company of Ohio. After his year of internship, he was promoted to the position of Capital Budget Manager, a position he would hold for 29 years, currently with Century Link Communications. It was there at the telephone company, that he met his wife Nina (Meeks) Keinath. The two were married June 3, 1987.
An Eagle Scout, Arnie was always very active with the Boy Scouts of America, and served as troop master for ten years with Troop #101 in Butler.
An enthusiastic golfer, he was a member of three different golf leagues, hitting the links on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. He hit a hole-in-one on the Shelby Country Club course.
Arnie was a member of University Club and St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Nina, son and daughter-in-law Mitch & Jessica Keinath of Columbus, sons Marc Keinath of Dayton and Eric Schmidt of Mansfield; and his parents Jakob & Theresa Schmidt of Mansfield.
His grandmother Jullianna Baumann preceded him in death.
The Schmidt Family will receive friends Friday, September 17, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Father Tony Borgia will officiate. Burial will follow in Bunkerhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Hospice of North Central Ohio, and may be made at the funeral home.
