Arleta “Fern” Mears

Arleta “Fern” Mears, age 93 of Delaware, passed away Friday evening at Delaware Court.

She was born on November 22, 1922 in Lewiston, Il to the late Harley and Garnett (Harrison) Arnett. She was along with her husband the owner of Cottonwood Motel in Lewiston, Il for 30+ years. She was active with the Grace Community School.

Fern enjoyed flowers, bird watching, cooking, vacation trips and going for ice cream cones. She was a Chicago Cubs Fan and enjoyed watching golf. Fern was most proud of her family, her children and grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild. She also enjoyed her canine friends, Kayla and Bella, feline friend, Valentine.

She is survived by daughters: Julie A. (Darren Fleming) Mears of Delaware, Linda (Jerry) Spellman of York, SC; son: Charles “Phil” (Melodee) Mears of Delaware; grandchildren: Nick Mears, Ryan Mears, Jason Snook, Shawn Snook, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister: Bernita Hand of Colorado.

Preceded in death by husband of 68 years: Kendall E. Mears on April 14, 2010; brother: Leo Arnett; sisters: Eloise Sisson, Allene Spenny.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware where services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

    • Thank Joan. Love you too. Just pray for peace. It will be very hard with mom not being here in presence, but so happy she is not suffering and in heaven with dad and many others.
