Anthony R. “Tony” Mathews, age 22, of County Road 30, Mount Gilead, died Saturday morning, July 11, 1998, in Grant Medical Center, Columbus, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Friday evening.
On July 28, 1975, Tony was born in Mount Gilead, Ohio, the son of Ronald and Linda (Copeland) Mathews who survive in Mount Gilead. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1993. He worked for Baja Boats in Bucyrus for the past two years. He was a talented artist who enjoyed boating and water skiing.
In addition to his parents, he will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Sonia Bloomfield; her daughter, Destiny Bloomfield, both of Bucyrus, OH; two sisters: Nikki and Stacey Mathews, both of Mount Gilead; and grandparents: Harold and Maxine Phillips of Mount Gilead, Clarence Mathews of Galion, and Leonard Copeland of Cardington.
His family will greet friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14th, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will also be held there on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., with Pastors Doug Bryan and Jerry Snavely officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead.
