Anthony Michael “Tony” Carter, age 46, of Mount Vernon died Saturday February 12 at the Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cape Canaveral, Florida after suffering a heart attack while on a Caribbean cruse. Tony was born March 29, 1958 in Loudenville to Ross and Alice (Schaub) Carter and had spent most of his lifetime in Knox County.

He served with the U S Army and the Ohio National Guard for a total of 21 years.

Tony had been employed as a machine operator for Vicwest Steel in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the Loudenville American Legion.

Surviving are his wife Cheryl (Knox) Carter; his son Ross (Emily) Carter of Fredericktown; his stepson Rick (Melinda) Knox of Apple Valley; four grandchildren Kyle Carter, Christian Carter, Caleb Carter and Salina Knox; and two sisters Pam Carter of Mount Vernon and Pat (Richard) Frazee of Howard. His parents preceded him in death.

Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 3 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where a service celebrating the life of Anthony Carter will be held at 3 PM Wednesday. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will provide military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
