Anna Rita Leland Carsey
January 17, 1963 ‒ April 12, 2011
MANSFIELD: Rita Carsey was a “people person.” Much more than a WalMart greeter, Rita befriended the customers and pursued friendships with many people. Her background as a certified special education teacher and as a home health aide equipped her with “people skills.”
The woman who was tirelessly helping others passed away Tuesday April 12, 2011 in MedCentral Hospital. She was 48.
Born Anna Rita Leland on January 17, 1963 in Fairlawn, OH, she was the second child born to Dr. John & MaryAnn (Bowman) Leland. She was graduated from Loudonville High School in 1981 and attended Ashland County JVS, where she was certified in special education.
On an unusually down day, Rita was surprised by a bouquet of roses from a man she barely knew: the flowers not only lit-up her face and cheered her up, but began her relationship with Jesse Carsey. The two were married July 29, 1988.
Rita liked to stay busy, while attending Berean Baptist Church she sang in the choir and helped in the nursery. She more recently attended Shelby Alliance Church. She enjoyed shopping trips, reading mysteries and attending any event featuring “Image” the Mansfield Christian School group with which her daughter sings.
She is survived by her husband Jesse; their daughter Christine Carsey; her mother MaryAnn Stewart of Fairlawn; brother John (Quinn) Leland of Kettering; sister Lisa Leland of Chicago, IL; nephews John and James; aunts, uncles and cousins including her aunt Marie in Superior, WI; and numerous friends including the Danyi family of Galion.
She was preceded in death by her father and her stepfather Dick Stewart.
The Carsey family will receive friends Monday, April 18, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue (Former Finefrock Funeral Home), where her funeral service will be held Tues day at 10:30 a.m. Pastors Matthew Peyton and Tim Young will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Rita Carsey Memorial Fund may be made at the funeral home.
