Anna J. Yates

May 25, 1944 ‒ September 04, 2017

Delaware, Ohio

Anna J. Yates, 73, of Delaware passed away Monday afternoon, September 4, 2017 at her residence.

She was born May 25, 1944 in McDowell, Kentucky to the late Lee B. Hall and Delphia (Osborne) Hall.

First and foremost Anna was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. For almost 25 years she worked as the dietary manager of Sarah Moore Home. She also worked as a nurse assistant at Grady Memorial Hospital and for the former Flxible Corporation.

She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, walking her dog, Max and spending time with her cat, Fluffer. An avid Buckeye and Reds fan, she also enjoyed reading, listening to country music and playing on her computer. A wonderful cook, her biscuits and gravy and green beans were simply the best. She treasured gathering her family together for her bountiful breakfast and her Christmas fudge couldn’t be beat.

Persistent in her own unique way, she was strong willed. Never one to hold back, she was quite the socializer and was easy to befriend. As the family matriarch her life centered on her beloved family; each and every one.

Left to cherish her memory are her children,  Lorraine Inglish, Ricky (Terri) Yates both all of Delaware, Danny (Paula) Yates of Dublin, Patty (Rick) Ratliff, Betty (Doug) Richmond, Junior (Laurie) Yates all of Delaware; 8 grandsons and 6 granddaughters: Eric and Travis Yates, Nicole, Mackenzie, Zach Yates,  Briana Dachniewicz, David (Renee) Inglish, Otis (Christy), Lucas, and Cory Ratliff, Josh Richmond and Allison, Rachel, and Lauren Yates, great-grandchildren Jesse and Conner, brothers, John T. Hall of Georgetown, KY., Jimmy Ray Hall of Georgetown, KY., Billy Harold Hall of Hot Springs, AR., and Roger Mullins of Ft. Walton, FL.; sisters, and Peggy Combs of Mousie, KY.; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Holly Williamson, Madelin Hayes, Madge Keen, Betty J. Hall, and Ruby Banks and brothers Junior Humphries and Ronnie L. Hall.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William St., Delaware and where funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Donnie Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Contributions in Anna’s memory may be made to Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 S. R. 37 East, Delaware, OH 43015.

  • Anna was a very special lady. She had a cute little hop when bowled together on Tuesday night’s. A special woman who gave me a baby shower for my daughter when I worked at Sarah Moore. Never shy and always one to impart words of wisdom or just tell ya what you were doing wrong with a recipe when it wouldn’t come out right. Thoughts are with her family at this time.

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I’d only met Ms Anna Jewel once, at my wedding to my amazing husband Jimmy Kelley as she fondly called him. Jimmy says no one made biscuits and gravy like Anna Jewel. My husband’s greatest memories are of Eastwood Ave with all the Yates kids. She raised her babies well . God bless you all.

  • Anna was a special last who touched many lives. I’ve known her only for a few short years but it became apparent to me very quickly that Anna genuinely care about others. I enjoyed the little visits we had and will miss seeing her sitting out on her front porch or in her chair in the living room. My only regret would be not having the opportunity to have known her longer. I look forward to meeting up with her again in heaven. To all of her family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. . .
