Anna Charlotte Jackson, age 96, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday August 31, 2011 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home. Anna was born June 19, 1915 in Knox County to William and Bessie (Newton) Bartlett and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. She had worked at Shellmar Products, Montgomery Wards, the Mount Vernon Telephone Company, and retired from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center in 1971. Anna loved her Lord and she loved people and had many friends. She served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Her love of children and teaching children was very dear to her. She also served as a counselor on the Billy Graham Crusade in Columbus. Anna was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mount Vernon. She was a dedicated member and loved the Order of Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron of Manilla Chapter in Centerburg in 1968, 1975, 1990 and was to be installed as Worthy Matron again in 1994 but had a serious fall in 1993 at Eastern Star Grand Chapter in Cleveland. It took her faith and God and will and determination to be able to walk and talk again. Anna received her 50-year pin from the Order of Eastern Star in 2006. She also served as District President for the Order of Eastern Star. She had also been a member of Weaver, Miller and Pamona Granges, where she served as lecturer. Anna had also been a member of the Knox County Humane Society, the Knox County Extension Office and the Canary Club.
Anna is survived by her daughter Monica Frye of Mount Vernon; her sister Nina Carpenter of Scottsdale, Arizona and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Jackson and her brothers Bill Bartlett and Wilber Bartlett and her sister Martine Swank.
Friends may call Friday September 2, 2011 from 6pm to 7pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be Saturday at 10am. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
