Alva Janet Dickey, 96 formerly of Delaware, died Sunday (February 10, 2002) morning at Village of Westerville in Westerville.

She was born in Delaware on January 23, 1906 to the late Arthur and Mabel (Shipman) Birdsell. Retired teacher for Delaware City Schools, where she taught at Conger Elementary School for 20 years. WWII US Navy Veteran serving as a code breaker. Member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survived by Niece: Janet Lotz of Pataskala; Nephews: Steve and Gloria Lotz of Gahanna and Gunther and Debbie Criswell of Fairbanks, AK.

Preceded in death by Sisters: Edith Dickey, Margaret Criswell, Evelyn Lotz and Marilyn Hirdes.

Friends may call at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street, Delaware on Thursday (February 21, 2002) from 5-7 p.m. and the service following at 7 p.m. with Rev. Carl Shaffer officiating. Burial at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
