Alva “A.D.” Statzer

Alva “A.D.” Statzer, age 89, of Ebersole Ave., Fredericktown, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 17, 1923 in Russell County, Virginia to the late Alva D. and Lucy (Cumbow) Statzer. A.D. was employed with Knox Community Hospital, but his passion was working on the family farm and in his vegetable garden. He enjoyed hunting turkey and deer and was also a master at woodworking. A.D. was active with the First Baptist Church of Fredericktown.
He is survived by his son, Jerry (Annette) Statzer of Butler, two daughters, Phyllis Shira of Fredericktown and Barbara (Wayne) Fry of Mount Vernon, six grandchildren, Jody (Patrick) Mickley, Gidget (Mark) Graves, Monty Shira, Robert Stringfellow, Chuck Statzer and Matt Statzer, seven great grandchildren, a great great grandson, a sister, Mary (Mark) Hamilton of Bristol, Tennessee and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Statzer, a son, Thomas Statzer, a grandson, Chad Mickley, a brother, Blain Statzer, six sisters, Estelle Farmer, Lenore Malone, Kate Cross, Lena Purcell, Josie Ellis, Peggy Stine and sons-in-law, Carroll Stringfellow and Roger Shira.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fredericktown, 22 E. Sandusky Street, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019. Rev. Patrick Bailey will be officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
