Althea Kathryn MacAdam

Althea Kathryn MacAdam, 92, a long time Galion resident, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Findlay.
Born Dec. 29, 1915 in Galion, she was the daughter of the late John Lowell Ness and Ruth Estella Reynolds Ness. She was preceded in death on Oct. 2, 1982 by her husband, William Charles MacAdam whom she married on Sept. 15, 1940.
Althea was a graduate of Galion High School in 1933 and was a very active member of the First Lutheran Church where she was part of the choir and served as the church organist. She was also a member of the Galion Golden Age Club where she founded the Jing-A-Lings, Galion Sorosis Foundation, Galion Masque Club and the Galion Area Betterment Commission. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the former North Electric for three years. She and her husband owned and operated Bill MacAdam, The Men’s Shop in Galion for 30 years. She later worked as a sales associate at the former Clothes Horse in Galion. Althea appreciated and enjoyed her many friends and helping and doing for others. She was a recipient of the Crawford County Citizen of the Year Award. Her life was giving of herself to her family and friends. She always had a smile and loved to cook. Known for her green thumb, she enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, being in the sunshine and music. Althea loved Galion, identified with youth and young people and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, William John and Frances MacAdam of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. and Thomas Charles and Claire MacAdam of Houston; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Bryant of Findlay; seven grandchildren, Julie Bryant, Suzanne Mark Kirk, Alec MacAdam, Eden MacAdam-Somer, Adaiha MacAdam-Somer, Batya MacAdam-Somer and Ilan MacAdam-Somer; two great grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Kirk; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard L. and Jane Ness of Galion and six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Ness.
Friends may call from 10:30 to 12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at First Lutheran Church where services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, with Rev. Matt Wheeler and Pastor Jim Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.
