Alice R. Hager
October 03, 1922 ‒ March 08, 2005
MANSFIELD: Alice R. Hager, 82, of Betner Drive, Mansfield, died Tuesday evening March 8, 2005 in her home, following a short illness.
She was born October 3, 1922 in Richwood to Vernon E. “John” and Vivian (McElroy) Kurtz, and was graduated from Madison High School in 1940.
A lifelong Mansfield resident, Alice married Henry M. Hager on June 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1998.
She had worked 22 years with the former Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company, first in the cost accounting department, and retired from the payroll department. She later worked 15 years as a professional real estate agent with Sluss Realty, retiring again in 1995.
Alice felt she had completed the jobs God had given her. Whenever she was ill, her comment was: “If God has more jobs for me to do, I will get better. When I’ve done all he has planned for me, He will take me.” Her jobs are now completed.
Her life was her family, as family came first. She truly enjoyed her children and grandchildren, and thought being a great grandma was a special gift. Taking grandchildren on vacation or doing something special for them gave her great pleasure. They all looked to her for advice and guidance.
She took great delight when the great grandchildren spent the night with her, as they have all developed a special relationship with her.
Alice loved family gatherings and loved to cook and bake. In recent years she became quite the political junkie who liked to talk politics, and became quite fond of jigsaw puzzles.
Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Cross, Lexington.
She is survived by her daughter Judey Hebert of Mansfield; her daughter and son-in-law Keven and Jerry Ellis of Lexington; grandchildren Haley Hebert Adams of Dublin, Tara Hebert of Mansfield, Erynn Jordan of Loudonville, Brock Jordan of Mansfield, step grandchildren Brian Ellis and Curt and his wife Patty Ellis all of Mansfield; great grandchildren Cameron Douros, Taylor Adams, Cheyanne Browning, Ethynn Browning and Cade Ellis; a brother Jerry Kurtz of Coral Gables, Florida; a sister-in-law Betty Kurtz of Marblehead; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jack and Betty Hager of Mansfield, Betty Kudrak of Mansfield, Rosemary and Jack Shisler of Beavercreek and LaVonne Hager of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Robert Hebert; a brother Charles Kurtz; brothers-in-law Joseph Hager, Mathias “Motz” Hager; and a sister-in-law Julia Warga.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 11, 2005 from 4-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 pm. The Rev. Denise Marikis will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions to A Special Wish Foundation may be made at the funeral home.
