Bellville, Ohio

BELLVILLE: Alice Marie Stoodt, 78, of Bellville passed away Wednesday September 7, 2011 at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Arizona following a courageous battle with cancer.

Alice was born in Traverse City, Michigan on July 4 ,1933, the daughter of Mary and Adam Flees and was a graduate of St. Francis High School and Northern Michigan School of Nursing.

While living in Traverse City she caught the eye of Horace Stoodt, who was at the time serving in the military. With the hopes of traveling as the wife of a serviceman, Alice married Horace on September 14, 1955. The two lived in many communities around the Great Lakes area, ending up in Bellville. Alice’s love for traveling remained and Alice and Horace enjoyed countless trips together, their favorite was to Florida. For the past seven years the two have shared their lives between family in Arizona and Ohio.

Alice spent her life being the best wife, mother and grandmother a family could ever want. She loved to bake and cook, and made Horaces’ favorite- german chocolate cake. She was very crafty, spending countless hours helping her grandchildren with all of their projects.

Alice was a member of Resurrection Parish.

Alice’s one of a kind sense of humor never made for a dull moment. Her family and neighbors will miss her usual “loving call” to her husband, “Horace it’s time to get in the house!” Such a blessing to her family they are so grateful for the wonderful memories she has left to cherish.

Alice is survived by her husband of 56 years Horace F. Stoodt of Bellville; daughters Cindy Stoodt of Columbus, Mary Stoodt of Bellville and Lisa Stoodt (Farid Nagy) of Laveen, AZ, and son Gary Stoodt of Mansfield; grandchildren Cody Stoodt, Amanda (Mike) Carpenter, Andrea (Zack) Alsehouse all of Mansfield and Sarah Nagy of Laveen, AZ; great-grandchildren Keirstyn and Allaura Carpenter of Mansfield.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Chester and Sylvia Flees and sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Jack Bauman.

The Stoodt family will receive friends Sunday evening September 11, 2011 from 5-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Calling will continue Monday morning from 10-11am in the vestibule of Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44904 where her mass of christian burial will be offered at 11am.
