Alice M. Harden

July 14, 1955 ‒ September 30, 2021

Edison, Ohio

Alice M. Harden, age 66, of Edison, passed away Thursday morning, September 30, 2021, at Galion Community Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born on July 14, 1955, in Mansfield, to the late Marvin L. and Mabel I. (Secrist) Huvler Sr. Alice attended Northmor High School and graduated with the class of 1973.

On October 22, 1977, Alice married the love of her life, Earl Harden in Clintwood, VA. Together they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage while raising a son, three daughters, and eight grandchildren.

A woman of faith, Alice was raised in the Johnsville United Methodist Church. Later she enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead with her family.

Alice loved nothing more than tending to the needs of her family. While her children were growing up, she was their biggest cheerleader and even coach as they played volleyball, t-ball, and softball. She could also often be found in the pool concession stand lending a hand during the activities. As her children grew older, and she began taking on the role of grandma, Alice continued to babysit as a full time job which brought her great joy to have the time with her grandkids. Another great pleasure for Alice was the family vacations they took which kept the family close together over the years.

Having a heart of gold, Alice was always able to make friends wherever she went and never knew a stranger. Alice was an excellent cook and baker. She was well known for her pies and cakes of which she won many blue ribbons at the fair. Going into the holiday season, Alice was also well known for her hardtack candy which was a favorite with family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Earl; son, Ron (Lori) Harden of Mount Gilead; daughters: Julie (Chris Davis) Harden of Mount Gilead, Nicole (Bryan) Guy of Mount Gilead, and Ashley (Drew) Sickmiller of Galion; grandchildren: Greg, Melinda, Josh, Kinsley, Maci, Haylee, Gunner, and Kinley; sisters: Marsha (Larry) Craddock of Medina and Mary (Geoff) Bishop of Galion; brother, Marvin Huvler Jr. of Johnsville; uncles: Wayne, LeRoy, and Merrill Huvler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin Sr. and Mabel; and her mother-in-law, Bertha  Harden Huneke.

Per Alice’s wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate her life.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Gilead Baseball and Softball Commission. (PO Box 262, Mount Gilead, OH 43338)

  • Dearest Mary, Geoff, Earl and the entire family: Mom and I are so sad for each of you. We are very grateful that you can love and support one another through this time of deep loss. More than anything we are grateful that during this unimaginably, painful time GOD is with you. We are steadfastly praying for each of you. Alice was such an amazing, wonderful person. Just imagine what it must have been like for her the moment she stepped out of this world to enter her eternal home. When she knelt in the presence of her God and King, and HEARD these longed for words: Matthew 25:23 “well done good and faithful servent… enter into the joy of your LORD.”
    Love, Sue and Helen
P.S. I never forgot that beautiful smile of hers, Earl. She beamed that day years ago when she handed me and Old Eddie Boy a pizza at Little Caesar’s and said, “Here Sue and Eddie, it’s on us.” What a yummy pizza that was. 🙂 xoxoxo
