Alice E. Stewart, 83, of Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, with her loving family at her side.

Alice was born on September 23, 1936 in Delaware, daughter of the late Kenneth E. and Pauline E. (Reichelderfer) Ward.  She was a 1954 graduate of the Willis High School.  Upon her graduation from high school, she worked at the former Kline Shoe Store in Delaware for a number of years.  She married Joseph Stewart on September 23, 1962. She was a loving wife and mother. Sadly her beloved husband of 18 years passed away in 1980.

Alice then went to work at the former Big Wheel Store, and then worked at the former Buehler’s Store, along with her working for the Delaware City Schools for many years.  Alice was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church.  She dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  She also enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching and plastic canvas sewing.  When she was younger she enjoyed playing softball and also attended her grandchildren’s ball games.  Alice was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Surviving are her four children, Ron (Candy) Stewart of Marengo, Ryan Stewart of Columbus, Debbie (John Blight) Moss and Jodi (David Levings) Stewart, both of Delaware; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; her brother, John (Carol) Ward of Delaware; sisters, Lois Barbro of Delaware, Donna (Jim) Brawley of Arizona, and Martha (Kevin) Irwin of Mt. Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents that had preceded her in death, was her husband Joseph in 1980; step-daughter, Debra Jo Stewart; son-in-law, Michael Moss; daughter-in-law, Carol Bird; nephew, Cassidy Ward; brothers, Clarence and Gabby Ward; and her canine friends, Aspen and Kiara.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020 in the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, with the Rev. Keith Daniels, officiating.  Burial to follow in the Ashley Union Cemetery.  Immediately following the committal services in Ashley Union Cemetery, the family would like to invite all to join them for a celebration of life at the Ashley Firehouse.

Memorial contributions may be given to assist the family with funeral expenses.

  • I am so sorry to hear about Alice. My daughter, Tracie ( McCune) Bolin had Alice and Jodi as her teachers in SACC . I always seemed to run into Alice at Goodwill or Walmart and I would enjoy talking to her. She was such a sweet lady. My prayers are with the family.

  • Alice was my favorite recess teacher ever! She always had her heart into every child in her path even as an adult she would give me the biggest hug and tell me how she loved watching me grow up, she then watched my kids thru the DACC program! She was an amazing lady and I’m sending my love and condolences to the entire family!

  • What a wonderful person Alice was. She was such a great mentor and caregiver to the children at SACC. The time that she took to teach kids crafts, to color with them as they would visit and share their day. Her smile was always a welcome sight as you entered the SACC program. She will be missed. I am so thankful that I got to work with Alice. She was such a kind and thoughtful woman.

  • The world has lost a bright and shinning. My son and 3 grandsons were her Conger kids. They were always running to seek her out when they saw her Tweety Bird Car in the parking lot. She was loved by every kid on the East side. We have lost a precious flower, Thank you for sharing her with us
