Albert F. “Al” Schoelkopf, age 78 of Sunbury and formerly Centerburg, passed away Friday evening October 14, 2011 surrounded by his family at his residence.

He was born on April 4, 1933 in Bear Creek, Wisconsin to the late Robert C. Schoelkopf and Elizabeth (Wagner) Glocke. He was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran, member of VFW Post # 8736, American Legion Post #457. A retired self-employed home remodeler and a former member and Past Master of Sparrow Lodge No. 400 F&AM and a current member of Freeport Lodge No. 415 in Londonderry.

Al was an avid sportsmen and hunter, hunting deer, turkey and squirrel. He also raised Brittany Spaniel hunting dogs.

He is survived by his wife of almost 29 years and they were married October 30, 1982: Norma (Hawks) Schoelkopf; sons: David, Marcus (Joyce) Schoelkopf; daughter: Dru (Rick) Williams; step-sons: Scott (Pam) Hubbard, Rick, Ron, John Siegman; many grand and great grand children; sister: Dale Miller of Florida.

Preceded in death by brothers: Jack, Jim.

Friends may call at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury from 6 -7 p.m. on Wednesday with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. followed by military honors provided by the Sunbury VFW Post #8736. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the VFW Post, 435 McGill Street, Sunbury, Ohio following the services.
