Albert “Abie” Arquilla, age 78, of Port Clinton, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday April 2, 2002 at the Edgewood Manor Nursing Home in Port Clinton. Abie was born February 8, 1924 in Mount Vernon to Rufino “Mike” Arquilla and Aline (Jacquet) Arquilla and had spent most of his lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. He was employed as a glass cutter at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in Mount Vernon and following his retirement he captained a charter fishing boat on Lake Erie.
Surviving are three daughters Julie Mathis of Port Clinton, Linda (Mike) Ledbetter of Newark and Debra (Les) Little of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his brother Lee “Verle” Arquilla of Port Clinton; his sister Victoria Stillings of Mount Vernon and his sister-in-law Dorothy Arquilla of Mount Vernon. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Sadie Arquilla; 4 sisters Adaline Blubaugh, Mary Berger, Jenny Ballinger and Yolanda Arquilla and 2 brothers Joe Arquilla and Mike Arquilla.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be Saturday April 20, 2002 at 11 AM at the Community Christian Fellowship Church near Gambier with Pastor Robert Pelfrey officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
