Ruth E. Simpkins

Ruth E. Simpkins, age 83 of Delaware passed away Sunday morning, January 15, 2012 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
She was born on July 22, 1928 in Henderson, W.V. to the late Edmund and Frances E. Mayes. A Delaware resident since 1966, she had worked as a sales clerk and cashier with Sears. Not one for joining clubs, she was happiest at home surrounded by her family and special canine companions Baby Snowball and Shadow “Suggie” Bear.
Ruth loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were her pride and joy. In her early years she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling, camping and walks. Her home and table were always open to anyone in need of shelter or a meal. She was forever polite, generous, and will be remembered for her loving and caring ways.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years: Wilbur F. Simpkins, daughters: Mary and Brenda Simpkins, son: Robert (Kathy) Simpkins all of Delaware, 7 Grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren, brothers: William E. “Sonny” (Pansy) Mayes of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Roger L. (Lynn) Mayes of Addison, and sister: Phyllis A. (Chalmers) Ferguson of Point Pleasant, WV.
She was preceded in death by sons: Lester and William, great-grandsons Austin and Logan Darst, brother Donald Mayes, and sister Helena Maxine Bonecutter.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware where services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. with Pastor Donnie Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.
