Richard H. “Dick” Taylor

July 24, 1936 ‒ October 14, 2006

Chesterville, Ohio

Richard H. “Dick” Taylor, age 70, of 4142 State Route 314 North, Chesterville, died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, October 14, 2006, at the Morrow County Hospital following surgery after a three month illness.

He was born at the home where he still resides in Chesterville, on July 24, 1936, the son of the late Harry & Marjorie (Mohr) Taylor.

On June 1, 1958, Dick married his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann (Denman) Taylor.

Dick worked for 30 years at North Electric/ITT in Galion where he became a supervisor. For the past 16 years, he has worked as a mail contractor for Evert Hawk, Ted & Todd Ruck and Jay McKevor in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 303 in Galion.

In his younger days, he enjoyed playing football with the Chesterville Screaming Eagles at Chesterville School. Later in life, he has become an avid sports fan, rooting for his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and both the Cleveland Browns and Indians.

Dick will be remembered for his hard work ethic and his willingness to give anyone a helping hand. Coming from a large family, he cherished any time spent with the family; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed being a mechanic and tinkering on cars, and everyone in the family knew if they needed something fixed Dick would always be there. Also, “a chainsaw and a hammer” was all he needed if anyone in the family wanted an addition put onto their house.

In addition to his wife, he will be missed by his three children LuAnne (John) Lee, Licia (Roger) Bachelder, and Travis Taylor all of Chesterville; grandchildren Jeremy “Opie” (Jodi) Taylor of Chesterville, Perry “P.J.” (Mary Kern) Geyer of Bucyrus, Brandi (Jon) Geyer of Cardington, Rachelle “Shelly” Lee of Chesterville, Chasity “Chas” (Rob Coleman) Lee of Cardington, John Richard (Amanda) Lee of Fredericktown, Cole Howard, Dalton & Ethan Taylor all of Edison, Kaleb McClellan of Mount Gilead, and Autumn Wells of Marion; great-grandchildren ShyAnne, Shonda, Devin, Mikey & MaKenzy, Caitlyn, ShayLee, Faith, and Hope; step-great-grandchildren Faith, Monica, Clay, Asia, and Trevor; brother Bill (Jane) Taylor of Chesterville; seven sisters Polly Thompson of Chesterville, Betty (Charles) Peterson of Mansfield, Judy (Bufford) Keene of Cleveland, Clara Horlocker of Cardington, Sue Baldwin of Lexington, Martha (Bob) Keene of Mount Gilead, and Sandi (Lannie) Pierce of Mansfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Ronnie and Bob Taylor, and a brother-in-law J. B. Thompson.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Craven & Snyder Funeral Home, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeannie Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
