Reta C. Izer Spayde

BELLVILLE~ Former Dickerson Street, Bellville, resident Mrs. Reta C. (Izer) Spayde, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday morning April 19, 2009 from MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, following a short illness.
She was born March 24, 1911 on her father’s farm, and lived the majority of her life in Bellville. She was the daughter of John G. and Cora (Morgan) Izer.
Reta was graduated from Bellville High School in 1930, and married the love of her life Harlan Spayde on November 17, 1930. They celebrated 50 years together before he passed over September 5, 1981. They were the parents of two sons Duane and Douglas.
She was a former employee of Dominion Electric.
Reta and Harlan were co-founders of the Peoples Baptist Church. She had the gift of hospitality and took great joy in serving her Lord by using her home to make out-of-town guests comfortable, while they were here serving Christ.
Surviving are grandsons Brett (Jenny Conover) Spayde, and Michael Spayde all of Bellville, Kelly (Heather) House of Carlsbad, Calif., granddaughters Julie (Kevin) Wooden of Branford, Conn., and Dianna L. Flanagan of Cape Coral, Fla.; great grandchildren Brittany Flanagan, Savannah House, and Chelsea and Dani Conover; daughter-in-law Charlotte Spayde of North Fort Myers, Fla.; sisters-in-law Miriam Izer, Mae Arnold, Betty Altomonte, and Norma Spayde; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and cherished friends Betty and Bob Connel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harlan; sons Duane and Douglas; grandson Scott Spayde; great grandson Matthew Megger; sisters Florence Marietta, Dessie Stahl and Blanche Rodgers Query ; and brothers Oren Izer and Emmett Izer.
The Spayde Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in People Baptist Church, 223 Vanderbilt Road (at State Route 13), Mansfield. Pastor James Spencer will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
