Croton, Ohio

Fern E. Glaze, age 85 of Croton, passed away Sunday morning, November 19, 2006, at Northview Assisted Living in Johnstown.

She was born on October 18, 1921, near Condit to the late James and Beulah (Hendon) Bailey. A graduate of Johnstown High School in 1939 and lifelong resident of the Sunbury, Johnstown, and Croton areas, she was a homemaker first and foremost. She also assisted with the family dairy farm and has also worked at the former Townley’s IGA in Sunbury.

For over 50 years she was the New Bethel correspondent for the Sunbury News. She was a longtime member of the New Bethel Christian Union Church and was very active in the church’s activities from Bible School to ladies aid. She was the church organist for over 50 years.

A wonderful baker and cook, she will be remembered for her home baked pies, angel food cakes, and loving gentle qualities. She enjoyed all types of gardening, while being gifted at raising tomatoes and cucumbers; ground cherries always gave her problems.

She was happiest caring for her husband of 65 years, Carey Glaze, whom she married November 1, 1941, in the Sunbury First Baptist Church. She is also survived by three children: Raymond (Mary) Glaze of Spencerville, Judy (John) Braddock of Botkins, Anita (Don) Herlensky of Croton, 9 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren including expected twins.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
