Calvin Chester Rinehart

LEXINGTON: Calvin Chester Rinehart, 85, of Mill Street, Lexington, died Saturday morning, October 25, 2008 in his home following a long illness.

He was born on a farm on Ross Road outside of Lexington on August 28, 1923 to the late Robert Ross and Clare Belle (Miller) Rinehart. He was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1941.

Following high school Calvin joined the U.S. Marine Corps in June of 1942, serving in the Marine Air Corps. During his four years of service, he spent 17 months in the South Pacific during World War II.

On June 14, 1946 he married Betty Jean Quinn in Lynwood, California.

After his time in the Marines, Calvin worked as a welder at the steel mill in Mansfield. In 1958, he started carrying mail out of the Lexington Post Office. During his 25 years of service, he moved from Lexington to the Mansfield Post Office, however, he always delivered to those residing on Route #7. Following his Civil Service retirement in 1983, he worked part-time as a security guard at Kingwood Center in Mansfield.

He was a lifetime member of the Steam Corners United Methodist Church. Calvin was also very active in the Ohio Rural Letter Carriers Association and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association.

In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty, he is survived by his six children and their spouses Alvin Rinehart of Galion, Erleen and Harrell Gillis of Silver Spring, Maryland, James and Stephanie Rinehart of Sycamore, Gene and Molly Rinehart of Bellville, Lowell and Becky Rinehart of Lee, Florida, and David and Carol Rinehart of Galion; his grandchildren Julie Welton, Jeremy and Kristine Rinehart, Kristen Rinehart, Derek Rinehart, Bryce Rinehart, Garrett Rinehart, Ryan and Nikki Rinehart, Brennan Bartrum, Cody Bartrum, Randy Bartrum, Jason Rinehart, Jennifer Rinehart, Kaci Rinehart, and Kalvin Rinehart; and three great grandsons Trevor Rinehart, Gage and Justice Welton. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law Glenn and Eleanor Rinehart of Athens, and Robert and Mary Rinehart of Mansfield, and sisters-in-law Helen Rinehart of Mansfield, Faye Muesse, Ruby Quinn, Eva Davis, and Bonnie Rhodes all of California, and many many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Donald Lee Rinehart, a great grandson Ryland Rinehart, two sisters Betty Rinehart and Mildred Fraizer, and two brothers Dwight and Russell Rinehart.

Friends may call Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am. Pastor John Partridge and Pastor Millissa Hartson will officiate. Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
