BELLVILLE: James L. “Shorty” Robbie” Robinson, age 75, of Hines Avenue, Bellville, passed away Tuesday morning, April 20, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born December 25, 1934 in Mansfield, the son of Howard and Mary Catherine (Felix) Robinson. He attended Lexington High School where he played basketball and baseball.

In September of 1953, while attending Bellville’s famous Worlds Fair, Jim met Dana C. Walker, and ten months later the two were married on July 3. The only stipulation being that James agreed to move to Bellville, Dana’s lifetime home.

Together James and Dana raised their family of five daughters in Bellville. Though seldom a family issue arose, James knew that if a matter came to a vote, he would be outnumbered six to one.

James worked for The Bissman Company driving the same route for over 25 years. He also drove his own fuel oil route and worked for both Therm-O-Disc and GI Plastek from which he retired in 1995.

After retirement, James kept himself occupied mowing yards for elderly shut-ins, and bicycling on the bike trail.

Always up for a drive and a good meal, James thought himself to be quite the ladies man when he chauffeured his wife, along with her two sisters, out to dinner. Jim didn’t mind driving up to 50 miles, as long as the food was worthy and cheap.

James was a social member of Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion, and attended Three Crosses a United Methodist Fellowship.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Dana C. Robinson, five daughters and sons-in-law Nadene and Ed Belcher of Ashland, Diana and Ken Miller of Bellville, Kim and Dick Miller of Butler, Lynette and Dale Horn of Butler, and Lisha and Todd Kirkbride of Lexington; eight grandchildren and their spouses Chad and Hope Belcher of Butler, Kristy and Shane Walker of Delaware, Kelli and Joe Cyrus of Lexington, Ben Miller of Cincinnati, Josh Smith of Butler and his fiancée Shannon Hilverding, Jeremy Smith of Columbus, Emily Keinath of Cincinnati, and Chesney Smith of Lexington; nine step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren. Also surviving are step brothers and step sister Bob, Dick, Jim, Dave, and Janet Dill, a brother-in-law Willie Sweeney of Tennessee, six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses Norma Wolfgang, Mary Snavely, Rodney and Martha Walker, Ida Mae and Fred Ocheltree, Ron and Ellen Walker, Maurine and Jim Walters, and Bill Walker all of Bellville, and nieces and nephews to numerous to name.

He was preceded in death by his parents Howard Robinson, Mary Catherine (Felix) Robinson Dill, his step father, with whom James was very close Albert “Pop” Dill, a son-in-law Leroy Keinath, a brother and sister-in-law Howard, Jr. and Phyllis Robinson, a sister Cathy Sweeney, step brothers and step sisters Dorothy, Phil, Mary (Maggie), Herb, Kenny, Liz, and Ruthie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jack and Gerry Walker, Lois Little Gaddis, Charles Little, Clark Gaddis, Albert Wolfgang, and Homer Snavely.

Friends may call Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am. The Rev. Keith McLaughlin will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
