Robert “Richie” Newton, age 38 of Centerburg died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born on November 22, 1970 in Delaware to Robert H. and Pauline A. (Ware) Newton of Centerburg. A graduate of New Hope Center in Mt. Vernon, he was the hero of the Newton Family.

He loved sports, especially bowling, basketball, and swimming the 50 yard dash in the Special Olympics. Richie was an honorary Knox County Sheriff Deputy, a member of DASCO and a Buddy Walk member. He enjoyed driving his gator down the Heart of Ohio Trail, emptying the trash barrels and treasured the Centerburg community and Farming Festival. His dream came true when he met and rode in the July 4th parade with his idol Jym Ganahl.

Richie was a loveable person and loved everyone he met with his standard “Hey Man” and a big hug. He taught us that material things were not important in life, but that unconditional love was. He endeared a presence that everyone was drawn too, just as he was drawn to them.

He loved animals, especially his dog Freda, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Dallas Cowboys. He made a difference in every person he touched and was the guardian of his family.

Richie will be dearly missed by his parents, his sister: Carol (Larry) Middaugh of Centerburg, he was her hero. He was the best most loving uncle to: Courtney, Tyler, Conner, Colton, and Sydney. He was the most caring, loving, and protector of his niece: Hailey May, who will always hold her “Uncky” close in her heart.

He is also survived by sister: Cheryl Hill of Centerburg, aunts and uncles: Dale (Donna) Nesselrodt, Susie (Ronnie) Meyerhoeffer, Carl (Katie) McDormand, Roger (Evelyn) Walton, Dave (Shelia) Ware, and Robert Ware.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg with Evangelist Fred Albrecht officiating. The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury is honored to serve the family of Richie Newton.

In lieu of flowers food for the hungry may be donated to Glorean & Dave Gilkerson, 6212 Co Rd 15, Centerburg, OH 43011, Hospice of Knox County, or Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio, 510 E. North Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43214,in memory of Richie Newton.
