BELLVILLE: John Gilbert “Johnny” Gassaway, 74, of Bellville passed away Friday morning November 6, 2009 in Mansfield Memorial Homes.
Born in Marion on August 26, 1935 he was the son of Clayton and Mary (Balentine) Gassaway.
Johnny was a machinist making pumps for Peabody Barnes. After 35 years of work he retired in 1989. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Helen Gassaway of Frontier, Michigan, sisters-in-law Mary S. Gassaway of Sarasota, Florida, and Mary Gassaway of Mansfield; nieces nephews Patrick and Pam Gassaway of Mt. Gilead, Kathleen Gassaway of Sarasota, Jeffrey and Peyton Gassaway of Venice, Florida, Bobby Gassaway of Mansfield, Debra Gassaway of New Mexico, Tammy and Greg Clevenger of Camden, Michigan, Robin Jones of Columbus, Indiana, and David Gassaway of Mansfield, along with great nieces, great nephews and extended family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister-in-law Clayton Gassaway, Jr., Richard Gassaway, and Robert and Frances Gassaway, and two nieces Sara (Gassaway) Younger and Marilyn Gassaway.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 9, 2009 from 2-3pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral will begin at 3pm. Pastor Ron Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow in Zion Four Corners Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Mansfield Memorial Homes Activities Department may be made at the funeral home.
