Lawrence L. Heyder, age 92 of Sunbury died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at St. Ann’s Hospital.

He was born on April 19, 1917 in Columbus to the late Emil C. and Grace E. (Toy) Heyder. A US Army veteran he served his country during WW II. He was the proud owner and operator of Heyder Auto Parts at 17th Ave. and Velma Ave. and Pontiac and Weber Rd. in Columbus and Sunbury Auto Parts until his retirement in 1978. After retirement he enjoyed buying, repairing, and selling bicycles and attending garage sales. Hardworking, at times stubborn, things had to be done his way. He was happiest working with his hands doing rough carpentry.

Lawrence was a member of Sparrow Lodge #400 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine, American Legion Post #457, Sunbury United Methodist Church, and Sunbury Eagles. Former member of Sunbury Lions Club and Columbia Chapter No. 33 O.E.S.. He also was a former 4-H advisor for the Halter & Saddle Club.

He is survived by children: Larry (friend Daisy McKee) and Rolly (Mary) Heyder of Sunbury, Debi Polin of Millersburg, step-son: Lennie (Carla) Waldo of Columbus, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, special friend and companion Sarah Hinkle whose company he treasured. He also enjoyed spending time with Sarah’s son: John & Debbie Hinkle, attending Fredericktown Freddie football games.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years: Louise (Armstrong) Heyder in 2001 and brother Edison “Bud” Heyder in 2008.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brian Smith officiating, interment Sunbury Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc.
