Lost in tragedy, but never forgotten.
Kevin Dean McMurray, age 47, of Marion, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, October 25, 2009, at Marion General Hospital Emergency Room.
On May 6, 1962, Kevin was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of Lester McMurray and Wilma Jean (Morrow) Draper. He attended Tri-Rivers Technical School, where he studied machine trade.
For several years, Kevin worked as a machinist for General Machine in Marion, and he had also worked at Torco in Columbus. Most significantly though, Kevin helped his father rehab older homes to be able to rent nearly all of his life.
“A jack of all trades, and master of none”, Kevin could do or fix anything.
With a love for the outdoors, Kevin always said that all he ever needed was a “place in the woods and a fishing pole.” He would have fished all day every day if he could.
An excellent cook, Kevin looked forward to all holidays where he would make a feast for everyone to enjoy.
“A jokester,” Kevin always had a joke or a funny story to tell.
Having countless interests, Kevin will be remembered for his love of Harleys, NASCAR, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, and for being a “pool shark,” to name just a few.
With a heart of gold, Kevin loved his friends and family with all of his heart. They will forever miss him.
Kevin will be dearly missed by his wife, Ronda McMurray, whom he married on March 31, 1993; father, Lester McMurray; mother, Wilma “Jeannie” (Mike) Draper; two daughters: Nicole McMurray-Kibler, and Ashley Rice; two sons: Jeremy (Julie) Moore, and Nathan Laird; four grandchildren: Noel Moore, Honesty Kibler, Katherine and Chloe Kagel; two brothers: Lester (Bonnie) McMurray Jr. and Lewis “Mike” (Patty) Draper; five sisters: Dorothy Jo “Joie” Conley, Debbie Byrd, Starla Mullins, all of Marion, Lisa (John) Pope of Forrest, and Viola “Beth” (Joe) Franklin of Caledonia; two uncles: Larry Morrow of Marion, and Denver (Lou) Morrow of Ossian, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter “Wally” McMurray; and sister, Angela Mullins.
The McMurray family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating his life will also be held there on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Kevin’s family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
