MOUNT GILEAD: Randy Lee Beck has fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished his race, and is now at peace with our Lord, Jesus. Randy passed away on Thursday morning, April 23, 2009 in the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus after a courageous yearlong battle with lung cancer. Randy was 43.

Born on May 9, 1965 in Mt. Gilead, Randy was the oldest child of Richard Beck and Barbara (Baker) Vanderkooi and graduated from Northmor High School.

Randy first met Gayle (Davis) at Nelson’s Campground in Wooster at the young age 11, and forged not only a lifelong friendship, but a loving marriage of nearly 25 years.

Camping remained a great hobby to Randy and Gayle. They were VIP’s at Mt. Gilead State Park where together they volunteered and helped to raise funds for park festivities. Randy’s task always included serving the yearly pancake breakfast for campers in the park. His favorite park activity that he ran was the Apple Butter Festival, which took place the first weekend in October annually. More than all this, Randy and Gayle met many wonderful friends from far and wide as they visited the park.

Since a young man Randy has worked for the family business, Becks Auto Wrecking, in Johnsville, just recently he and Gayle purchased the company.

He truly was an outdoorsman. Randy enjoyed working with his hands, which led to his favorite hobby of cutting wood. He also looked forward to making maple syrup every February.

A strong work ethic was instilled in Randy at an early age. Seldom did he ever miss work for any reason. Coupled with his work ethic was Randy’s uncanny ability to tackle and solve almost any problem. Everyone called Randy when help was needed…and he was always ready and willing to lend a hand.

Gifted with quick wit, he could make anyone laugh. He simply made the best of every situation.

Randy loved being with family and friends, to Randy that was his true treasure. Rarely would you ever see Randy apart from his wife, Gayle. The two were inseparable.

He will be remembered for his larger than life heart. Someone who would extend a hand to anyone in need.

Randy is survived by his loving and faithful wife Gayle Beck of Mount Gilead; two sons Justin and Josh Beck both of Mt. Gilead; father and step-mother Richard and Janet Beck of Fort Myers, Florida; mother and step-father Barbara and Bill Vanderkooi of Galion; sister and brother-in-law Debera and Steve Brown of Martel; half sister Lori Beck of Columbus; father and mother-in-law James “Bud” and Dottie Ingersoll of Wooster; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a large circle of friends.

Randy was preceded in death by his infant brother Richard Eugene Beck, Jr.; grandparents Loren and Ruth Beck and Paul and Ruth Baker.

The Beck family will receive friends on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 2-6p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service celebrating the life Randy Lee Beck will be held on Monday at 11a.m. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society may be made at the funeral home
