Daniel Alan Day, age 74, of Marion, passed away on Friday morning, January 25, 2008, after a prolonged and valiant eleven year battle with cancer. Conquering the first encounter with leukemia, he finally succumbed to the second round of liver and colon cancer--fighting all the way!

Born in Cleveland, July 7, 1933, to the late Beulah Hammond and George Day, he was raised from the age of four in Marion by his grandparents, Elizabeth and George F. Day, and step-mother Rosalie H. Day. After graduating from Harding High School in 1951, he went on to attend Miami University where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, where he was President of the Miami chapter his senior year. After a seven year courtship, he married Mary Hamor, on June 25, 1955, who survives. One of his last wishes, which was fulfilled last summer, was to live for his special birthday, 7-7-07.

Dan retired in 2001, after working for 26 years with the Millard Hunt Company, which later became the Dan Day Appliance Center. Subsequent to the closing of the appliance business, Dan became a manufacturerís representative in the furniture, mattress, and carpet business for an additional 25 years.

Dan is survived by three sons, Jeff (Judy) of Encinitas, California, David of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Danny (Judy) of San Diego, California, and two grandchildren, Cambria and Jasmine Day, both of San Diego. Danís extended family includes Kristen (David) Koslow and Mark (Kathy) Schweinfurth of Columbus and their children, Kendell and Danielle. He is also survived by two half brothers, William (Julie) Conner of Shaker Heights, Tom (Diana) Conner of LaJolla, California; and a sister-in-law, Julia Day of Indianapolis, Indiana, who is the widow of Danís older brother, David Day.

Many will remember Dan from his participation in various sporting activities throughout the Marion Area, not only for himself, with his love of golf, but with the youth in summer Swim and Little League Teams.

Dan was an avid sports fan, infamous for his ability to provide the most detailed trivia on most big league and college athletes over the years. He devoured sports pages in the newspapers and magazines as well as any sports program on TV, while still watching his favorite show Law & Order! Dan was also an amateur gardener, spending many hours in the yard on his flower beds and vegetable gardens.

Dan was a member of Symposiarch, VFW Post 7201, Elks Lodge #32, Republican Central Committee and the Marion Country Club. He was a former member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and President of the HHS Booster Club. He was a life long member of St. Paulís Episcopal Church, where he served in many capacities, both Junior & Senior Warden, as well as the Treasurer for seven years.

Memorial services will be held at St. Paulís Episcopal Church, 197 E. Center St., Marion, on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. John Holliger officiating. Interment will be in Marion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a luncheon following the memorial service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Palace Theatre Capital Campaign, 276 W. Center St., Marion, Ohio, 43302.
