Carey R. Glaze, age 91 of Croton died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Northview Senior Living Center in Johnstown.

He was born on April 15, 1915 in Croton to the late Frederick and Ethel (Grandstaff) Glaze and was a graduate of Hartford High School Class of 1932.

A lifelong dairy farmer of Holstein cattle, he operated Carlyn Farms in Croton. He authored the news column “Between the Rows” in the Sunbury News. Carey was a longtime member of the New Bethel Christian Union Church and was very active in the church’s activities.

Carey had attended 92 straight Hartford Fairs and for years ran the dairy show and supported the 4-H program. Along with his band he called square dances state wide and with team of Halflinger ponies enjoyed pulling his “Little Red Wagon” in area community parades.

A story teller and jokester at heart, he was a gentle man, both kind and generous who was accepted in the Amish community. He collected friends, considered his greatest asset and was most proud of his family and registered Holstein bull “Gabe”.

Heart broken, on November 19, 2006 he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years: Fern E. (Bailey) Glaze, also preceded by sister: Wilma Lane, a granddaughter and numerous farm canine companions.

He is survived by three children: Raymond (Mary) Glaze of Spencerville, Judy (John) Braddock of Botkins, Anita (Don) Herlensky of Croton, 10 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren including expected twins.

Friends may call Friday 3-5 & 7-9 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be Saturday 10:00 a.m. at New Bethel Christian Union Church, 14144 Bethel Rd. SW, Croton, with Pastors Jon Dotson and Brian Grove officiating. Internment will follow in Trenton Cemetery.
