Alice M. “Granny” Sharp, age 85, formerly of Marion, died early on Wednesday morning, December 13, 2006, at the Riverside Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Richwood, Ohio, on August 6, 1921, the daughter of the late William and Elida (Jacobs) Chard.

On May 23, 1936, Alice married her loving husband of over 31 years, Harold R. Sharp, who preceded her in death on October 25, 1968. Together they owned and operated Sharp’s grocery for fifteen years.

In addition to the family grocery, Alice worked for IGA Foodliner as a meat cutter, and Davinci’s Italian Restaurant as a waitress. Alice was also formerly a member of the Eastern Star.

A wonderful cook and baker, Alice was at her best with a house full of family and friends as regularly catered to more than a dozen every Sunday. Too many favorites to list, her family could reminisce for hours about how much they miss the aromas, tastes and laughter shared around her table.

A skilled seamstress, Alice made clothing for her children and friends, and even sewed a wedding dress. She also enjoyed working in the garden, tending to her tomatoes, rhubarb and flowers.

Alice will be remembered as a “workaholic,” for raising her five children, taking care of the home, and diligently working to support her family. All the while managing to be her ornery self, who always was “lots of fun.”

She will be dearly missed by her family, whom she loved very much, which include her two sons Charles Sharp of Columbus, and Frederick “Fritz” (Joanne) Sharp of Marion; three daughters Charlene (Ron) Dickason, Dianna (Jerry) Shook, and Pamela (Myron) Berry all three of Marion; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; a brother William (Esther) Chard of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends on Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Quality of Life Hospice, c/o Marion General Hospital, 278 Barks Road West, Marion, Ohio 43302.

Pallbearers serving will be her grandsons Mike Sharp, David Drollinger, Phillip Sharp, Scott Berry, Michael and Johnathan Sharp.
