Kenneth L. Alexander, 59, of Mount Gilead died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at his home.
He was born on August 1, 1947 in Groveport, Ohio the son of the late Lester and Lydia Mae (Miller) Alexander. After growing up in Columbus Kenneth enlisted in the service at age seventeen; serving during the Vietnam War and was later deployed to Germany and Korea. After his discharge in 1980 he met Judy Chapman his wife of 25 years. They lived in Mount Gilead as he became employed at Marion Correctional Institute as a storekeeper. He retired in the mid nineties after thirteen years of service.
He was a member of AmVets Post #87 in Mount Gilead.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing and camping and was a true animal lover. His two Chihuahuas; Buddy and Sassy and his cat Annie held a special place in his heart. As a husband there was no denying that he loved Judy and her two daughters. He was a kind hearted man with a strange sense of humor sometimes making up words to create his own vocabulary. If you told Kenneth you felt ill he would tell you to eat a “Little Debbie” snack cake and you would feel better; going so far as saying that they would “cure cancer”.
He will be missed by his wife, four children, Becky (Aaron) Gaspard and Corie Tolle both of Mount Gilead, Ohio and Scott and Jenny Liesen of Dallas, Texas, two grandchildren; Geri Lynn Bowes and Tyler Liesen, his brother Jimmy Cossin of Columbus, Ohio, sister Leila Cottrell of Marengo, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his extended family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers and sister; Ruth Casto, Cottie Alexander, and Ralph and Abe Cossin.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday October 19, 2006 at the Enterprise Baptist Church in Edison at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ed Colgrove officiating. At Kenneth’s request calling hours will not be observed.
Memorial contributions if desired may be made to STOP Overpopulation of Pets, 1152 Lexington, Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44907.
Craven & Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are in charge of arrangements.
Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
