Robert F. Overmeyer, age 83, of Mount Vernon died Wednesday March 23, 2005 at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. Mr. Overmeyer was born July 22, 1921, in Crestline to Leo and Agnes F. (Stump) Overmeyer, graduated from Fort Wayne Central Catholic High School and earned his degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He served with the U S Navy in China during World War Two. Mr. Overmeyer was employed as a chemical engineer at the Continental Can Company in Mount Vernon for 45 years retiring when he was 70 years old.
He was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Mount Vernon where he had held all offices and was a Grand Knight. Mr. Overmeyer was an avid bowler and golfer participating with the Businessman’s and Continental Can Leagues. He was a former member of the Mount Vernon Elks Lodge and sang with the Elks Men’s Choir.
Surviving are his wife Ethelreda (Meyer) Overmeyer whom he married May 12, 1948; his sister Joan (John) DiTroia of Saugus. Mass.; his brother Donald R. (Teresa) Overmeyer of Defiance; nephews John DiTroia, Michael DiTroia, Gary DiTroia, Dr. Richard Overmeyer, Gary Overmeyer, Dr. Thomas Overmeyer, Dr. Daniel Overmeyer, Dr. James Overmeyer, Joseph Overmeyer, Frank Boeshart, Paul Boeshart, James Boeshart, William Boeshart, William Collins, Philip Meyer, Bob Meyer, Ron Meyer, Anthony Meyer, Paul Meyer, and Michael Meyer; nieces Anita Kerr, Della Larrick, Meg Eesley, Regina Marks, Pat Laipple, Ellen Culbertson, Rosemarie Phillips, Phyllis Nyhart, Mary Collins, Rita Dudgeon, Barbara Robinson, Dorothy Wright; and many great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his niece Diane DiTroia.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A funeral mass will be Monday at 10 AM at Saint Vincent de Paul Church with Father Ted Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
