John M. Ackerman, age 72, of West Sandusky St., Fredericktown, died at his home Wednesday January 19, 2005. He was born in Mount Vernon September 27. 1932, son of the late Dr. Earnest V. and Louise (McKay) Ackerman Huggins. Mr. Ackerman earned his bachelors degree of Geology at the College of Wooster and his Engineering degree at The Ohio State University. Mr. Ackerman was a Geological Consultant with his office in Fredericktown. Prior to opening his office he was employed by Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Co. He maintained professional associations in numerous organizations including The American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Ohio Oil and Gas Producers Assn. and the Ohio Oil and Gas Association. Mr. Ackerman was a member of Thrall Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Fredericktown Community Development Assn. and the Fredericktown Historical Society. He was a member of the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church and served the church as Trustee. Mr. Ackerman was a civic leader in the village and served several terms as president of both Village Council and the Fredericktown Local School Board.
He is survived by his wife Loretta (Fancsalszki) Ackerman whom he married June 25, 1960, twin daughters Melisa Ackerman and Melana Ackerman and Son Michael (Deidre) Ackerman all of Columbus, brother Phillip Ackerman of Travelers Rest, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Lloyd Huggins a brother David and sister Margaret Ellen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 22 at the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church at one o’clock pm. Following the service the family will receive friends at their home on West Sandusky St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fredericktown Community Center Fund, P.O. Box 117, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019 or to Hospice of Knox County, 302 E. High St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. The Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown is assisting the family with arrangements.
