LEXINGTON: Jon Q. Lectka, 76, of Eckert Road, Lexington, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 in the emergency room of MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born May 19, 1928 in Middleville, Michigan to Merrill and Alice (McDonald) Lectka and was graduated from Cadillac High School in 1946.

He earned his B.A. in Science from Wayne State University in 1946, and completed his Masters degree in Education, also from Wayne State.

Jon served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired in 1989 with 28 years of service with the Detroit Public Schools, where he taught science and math predominantly in the Greenfield Union Elementary.

A Lexington area resident for the past nine years, Jon was a member of All Souls Universalist Unitarian Church, Bellville.

He was an avid woodworker, and an equally skilled auto mechanic, who enjoyed golfing. A voracious reader of many genres, most recently his taste leaned toward good mysteries. Jon was an amateur arborist, enjoyed time spent in his gardens and was crazy about his twin two-year-old grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Dolores (Staniec) Lectka; son Dr. Thomas Lectka of Baltimore, Maryland; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Lisa Lectka of Delaware; grandchildren Lily and Lukas; two brothers and a sister-in-law William D. and Nellie Frances Lectka of Athens, Georgia and Charles R. Lectka of Livonia, Michigan; sister Janet Massey of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters-in-law Shirlee Lectka of Ocala, Florida and Catherine Lectka of Maple Grove, Minnesota; brother-in-law Robert Sniatkowski of Picayune, Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers Duncan, Ranald and Wallace Lectka; and two sisters Kathryn Solowiej and Wyn-Ellen Sniatkowski.

Services will be held at the discretion of the family. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is serving the family.
