BELLVILLE: Loretta Stahl knew that happiness wasn't a result from what she received, but from what she gave. Dedicated and ambitious, Loretta focused her energy on her family and the Bellville community.

United with her loving husband Max, Loretta Jean Stahl of Bellville passed away Monday morning March 25, 2013 in Gambier, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. She was 82.

She was the daughter of Paul and Lillian (Beech) Kelly. Loretta was born February 7, 1931 in Cleveland and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1949.

On November 30, 1948 she married Max E. Stahl. Loretta and Max shared many of the same interests. In the 1960s and 1970s, Loretta and Max traveled across Ohio teaching EMT seminars to firefighters and first responders. Mentors to their children and other kids in the Bellville community, Loretta and Max were also active in Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scouts Pack #126. Later in life they founded the Bellville Jefferson Township Historical Society, serving as president from 2002 until her death, dedicating many hours to the development of the historical society. She was the driving force behind the historical society's preservation of the Bellville Cemetery Chapel. Adventurous, Loretta enjoyed flying and acquired her pilotís license. She was also a member of the Clear Fork Valley Woman's Club.

Loretta worked as a secretary for Therm-O-Disc and also as office assistant for Don Barr and Associates.

She enjoyed working with stained glass, glass etching and tending her vegetable garden.

Loretta was a member of Bellville Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher. She also served as Past Worthy Matron of the former Bellville Chapter #291 Eastern Star, currently Ruth Chapter #17.

Loretta is survived by her daughter Sue Stahl of Bellville, sons Randall (Chongsuk) Stahl of North Carolina and Jerry (Rosemary) Stahl of Ontario; grandchildren Romulus (Pearla), Remic, Robert (Elena) and Ryan Stahl; great grandchildren Henry and Aaron Stahl; sisters Joan (Jake) Miller of Bellville and Gerry (Peter) Walkley of North Carolina; sister-in-law Sue Stahl (Noel's widow) of Mansfield; special nephew Joel (Fawnda) Stahl of Gambier; numerous extended family and close friends.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Max E. Stahl.

The Stahl family will receive friends Friday March 29, 2013 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where an Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Her funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Karin Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
